Argentina climbed to fifth place in the world-wide think tank rankings of 227 institutions according to the latest annual research by the University of Pennsylvania, which was published globally on January 30th with a simultaneous presentation in more than 140 cities. In this report, the Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI) was recognized as the top institution in Spanish America and Argentina

Even though South America and the Caribbean only account for 12.4% of the world's think tanks, there are more of these academic centers in our country than in Germany, Russia, or France; the United States, India, China, and the United Kingdom are four of the nations with the most think tanks.

In the index's opening category, "Top Think Tanks World Wide," CARI placed 42nd whereas "Fundación Libertad" placed 176th. In the following category without US institutions, CARI placed 35th whereas "CIPPEC" placed 47th, "CEDES" 79th, "CLACSO" 107th, and "Fundación Libertad" 106th.

Additionally, CARI was placed among the top 3 think tanks in Latin America and the Caribbean behind the Colombian "Fedesarrollo" and the Brazillian "CEBRI". Moreover, CARI continues to be the top think tank of international politics of our country, in the 39th place globally. Further, the Council is situated in the 44th place in the International Political Economy category, 52th in Defense and Security, and 48th in International Development.

Regarding the significant number of academic institutions in our country, the President of CARI, Adalberto Rodríguez Giavarini pointed out: "The productivity of Argentinean civil society and of our public diplomacy when projecting think tanks abroad is a vital element of our efforts to work internally and towards the world with the utmost value on democratic societies, cooperation in all of its aspects", he explained.

The Global Go-To Think Tank Index Survey was conducted by the Lauder Institute of the University of Pennsylvania with the participation of 45,969 people and institutions.
